Ladies and gentlemen, it’s that time of year again. Gospel Sing is back! In case you’re not familiar with Gospel Sing, it’s an annual event hosted by APU’s Student Center for Reconciliation and Diversity (SCRD). This event is structured around a collection of various gospel artists, and is a time is a time for the community to come worship with a some gospel soul. (Can I get an amen!?) Gospel Sing has been around for 25 years now, and this weekend’s concert will be the 25th anniversary! Folks, it’s going to be big.
For the past few years, this celebration has been held in APU’s Felix Event Center. Unique to the event is a love offering that they take up to raise support for local ministries. At one time this offering wasn’t specifically designated for local organizations, but open to ministries everywhere and anywhere. The Gospel Sing team recently made the shift to partner with organizations doing work right here in Azusa. Last year, while brainstorming on which program to feature to receive the offering, MYTHIRDPLACE was placed (no pun intended) on their radar. We were incredibly blessed to be invited to receive the love offering last year, and blown away that we’ve been asked back to receive the offering this year!
Last year, Adrian was invited on stage to speak on MYTHIRDPLACE where he shared his personal story (which you can read here) and challenged listeners to get involved. This led to some amazing results and connected us to some of our greatest blessings. An all-star mentor,
Brandon, asked to become involved in the M3P Fam after hearing about MYTHIRDPLACE at last year’s event. He approached our booth with questions on how to get plugged in. As we prepared to collect his info to send him the link to get connected, we found out that he’s already found it on our website, and was halfway through filling it out. He is now one of the biggest assets we have on the team. No only did he stick around this past summer to give direction and leadership to our Summer Program, but since getting connected with us, has embodied the commitment to teens we are in the business of cultivating.
Another of our mentors, Olivia, was also recruited there at last year’s event. After getting plugged in halfway through our Spring 2015, she intentionally arranged her schedule to ensure that she’d be able to get in on as much M3P goodness that she could. Olivia could be found serving at MYTHIRDPLACE any and everyday last semester. She knew that she wouldn’t be as available going into Spring 2016, but was determined to continue to use her passions, skills, and abilities to serve. Recently, she’s taken on the responsibility of taking charge of recruiting and processing new and prospective mentors into the Fam. With such awesome people joining us after last year’s Gospel Sing, we’re trusting God to move once again this time around!
Thank you, APU SCRD for hosting this event, and making a way for our teens and families to be blessed in and through it all. We love and appreciate you.
This year’s Gospel Sing is sure to hold many surprises as Albert Tate, Lead Pastor of Fellowship Monrovia, emcees the event. We’re excited for the energy we know will be all up in the place, and we invite you to join in! As stated above, Gospel Sing 2016 is this Saturday, February 6th. It is again being held in the Felix Event Center at APU, with doors opening at 5:30. Get ready to par-tay! Oh, and did we mention it’s free?!
For directions and even more info, check out APU’s formal event page.
Ready to join!? We are! Tell you’re friends your Saturday night plans and RSVP on Facebook.
See you there!
